How to Turned My Natural Powdered Foundation Into Liquid Foundation

How to Turned My Natural Powdered Foundation Into Liquid Foundation Pin It

While I have the MG naturals liquid foundation, its clay-like texture is a bit too drying for me. I also had the loose powdered mineral foundation, and I had an idea… what if I turned this into a liquid foundation. “Liquid” in this instance is talking to an oil-based foundation so that there’s far less risk of bacteria. I started with MG naturals Peach bisque, but you could use any brand you prefer for a clean formula. I personally wanted no titanium dioxide, so I go with MG.

Note that the color looks off because of harsh camera flash in a dark room (the goal was to show coverage not color)

INGREDIENTS I USED:

  • MG naturals foundation powder
  • Kaolin clay (to make thicker)
  • Sunflower oil
  • Jojoba oil
  • Squalane oil

You can see the coloring here:

Use whatever dry powder or loose foundation you like; or alternatively if you want 100% DIY you can use iron oxides, kaolin clay, and ultramarine if you have blue undertones; use very little yellow iron oxide and either red or blue depending on undertones; think 1/18th a tsp per 1/2 cup kaolin, and a couple specs of undertone; mix until your shade; you may want. Adding oil during this process can help dissolve the iron oxides and help it mix better. You may want to heat the mixture to speed up the process.

For the bottle I used my old Burt’s bees bottle that I thoroughly cleaned and disinfected before using it.

Mix everything together — I used the entire powder foundation in this because I wanted more coverage; you can also add a white clay like kaolin to thicken the mixture without making it too much lighter.

Honestly fill a foundation sized bottle (or about 75% of a cup), then about 3/4 full with oil – squalane isnt necessary I just added it because I had it, a couple drops jojobna can be nice too but the bonus oils should be about 1tsp or less. DO NOT ADD ANY WATER OR ANYTHING WATER SOLUBLE, this can lead to bacteria. Oil only is the only safe way. Add powder and mix (you can gently heat or double boil to make this quicker, I didnt but would next time), then mix as much as you want to get the shade you like; I found it took the entire tin for me.

I was honestly surprised how light and airy it is, the sunflower oil is great since it’s non-comedeogenic.
