I absolutely refuse to start calling clothing by the term “core”. Fairycore, Cabincore, and the likes were one thing, and still I disliked them but now Poshmark is trying to introduce even more insidious versions of FOMO by presenting normal every day clothing as “NORM-CORE”, as if there was a need for a term to replace casual clothing. Shopping by vibes is something that’s always irked me. It also annoys me because box retailers follow these trends too and there was a ten year gap where I couldn’t buy a shirt because everything was a crop top.
And I’m tired of it. I just want a good variety of clothing that are easy to find by normal names. Mid-length cardigan. High rise jeans. Not fairy princess palace winter wonderland core. I’m being dramatic, of course, but this is such an annoying thing when trying to find clothing either on major retailers or used. The SEO demons have decided that the best way to market clothing is to come up with outlandish labels based on Tik Tok trends and my 31 year old self is completely over the ruckus.
Apparently, Y2k is another core, and we have a core for everything under the sun. All I want are clothing pieces that aren’t trying to advertise to me some unobtainable “VIBE”. I just want to find things that fit and look a way that I prefer in my own style. Am I alone here? Am I crazy?
The overconsumption of fast fashion is tricking women world wide to skip along from core to core to stay trendy and fit in. But here’s a thought- just find good quality clothing that feel good to wear and look how you want to.
